Better parenting after divorce

Parents in and around McKinney know the importance of parenting when it comes to the development of their children. So when a couple decide to divorce, it can obviously be a difficult situation when it comes to the children involved. Parents often think about what the future may bring in terms of the child custody arrangements, parenting rights, their children's happiness and their ability to be good parents.

Although divorce may seem like a step backward in terms of parenting, for one father, it was a giant leap forward. The man recently detailed his divorce experience in a Huffington Post article, explaining that divorce actually made him a better parent.

The man and his wife divorced when their children were just 2 years old and 6 months old. The man admitted to not being the best parent during the marriage, as he worked nonstop and drank and got into trouble in his free time.

But when the divorce hit, the man was left jobless for two years and living alone in an apartment. That's when his renewed parenting experience began. The father explained that the first night his kids stayed at his house was a pivotal moment as a parent. As he rocked his young son to sleep, he realized that all he ever needed was right in his arms. The man says divorce forced him to relearn to be a parent.

As this story shows, divorce can have a different impact in every situation. While the decision to split may leave parents feeling uncertain about their role as parents, it can also be a chance to restructure the child-parent relationship for the better.
