Deion and Pilar Sanders face custody battle in Collin County

Divorces, and the child custody hearings that often accompany them, can be difficult. They're not typically happy court appearances to have to make. Often feelings are hurt in divorce cases and that can spill over into a custody dispute. Both parents want what's in the best interests of the child, but they often disagree on what that is. In Texas and other states, jurors and judges often face the challenge of determining which parent is best suited to care for the children based on the evidence provided by both sides.

Testimony has started in the child custody hearing between former NFL star, Deion Sanders and his wife, Pilar. The couple are currently separated and involved in a nasty divorce battle.

A Collin County jury will determine what is in the best interest of the pair's three children and who will be awarded legal custody. They'll only decide if the kids will live with Sanders or their mother, not any visitation schedules or child support issues..

Sanders argues that money is the primary motivation in this case and that it's not about the children at all, since his soon-to-be ex-wife only receives a million dollars from a prenuptial agreement. According to the attorney representing Mrs. Sanders, he is over a quarter of a million dollars behind in what he owes for their fees. Sanders did not address that claim.

Any child custody case is going to involve emotions on the part of the parents, and there may even be other motives behind a parent seeking physical custody. However, it would be wise for parents to remember that the child's best interest should be what is important. Parents seeking custody of their children, may want to speak to an attorney for legal guidance.
