Director, Michael Moore files for divorce from producer wife

Sometimes it can seem like, for celebrities, marriages come and go like the seasons. There are those few, however, which seem to stand the test of time. Whether in Collin County, or some other locality, when one of these long-lasting marriages comes to an end, it is a sad and often complex process.

Citing a separation and a marital break down that cannot be repaired, director Michael Moore has filed for divorce from his wife of 21 years. The couple has been married since 1991 and worked alongside each other in two of Moore’s most well known films, “Bowling for Columbine” and “Fahrenheit 911”. Moore’s soon to be ex-wife was a producer on both films.

As a part of his filing, Moore reportedly requested the court issue an order to prevent both himself and his estranged wife from transferring or selling any of their joint assets or properties. Moore’s net worth has been estimated to be approximately $50 million. Among other assets, the couple share a million dollar home in Torch Lake. It was not reported whether or not they signed a prenuptial agreement. If not, a family law judge will have to determine how to split their properties, bank accounts and other assets.

Anyone who is considering filing for divorce may want to consider obtaining legal representation. Even in the simplest of cases, there are a number of details that must be settled before a divorce can be finalized, including property division and determining if spousal support or child support are necessary. An experienced lawyer can explain your options and help guide you through the process, as well as look out for your interests in court.
