National Adoption Month highlights needs of foster children

All month long the entire country has been observing National Adoption Month to promote awareness for raising children in need. In Texas alone there are nearly half a million children who are currently in the foster care system. These young people are in need of stable and loving homes, and of parents to help raise them to become respectable citizens.

In response to this noble cause, the United States Texas Senator John Cornyn released a statement that highlighted a special family from El Paso that stands as an example of the importance of adoption. After caring for four siblings through the foster care system, a couple said that they came to understand that the greatest need the children had was to stay together and be loved by two parents. A few months ago the couple was able to officially adopt all four children, two of whom are special needs.

Cornyn also said that children will be most benefited when they are raised by parents who are involved. He asked that individuals who are financially capable of adopting consider doing so, and indicated that they will become heroes to those they take in and care for.

Adoption can be a difficult and lengthy process, even if you are looking to adopt the child of a family member. For those who are interested in doing so, turning to a family law attorney is a significant first step. A lawyer who has experience navigating the complex system can bring both strength and peace to the process.
