Authorities conduct sweep for those with child support warrants

There are a number of reasons why some people are unable to pay the child support they owe, from unemployment to unexpected financial hurdles. However, In McKinney, TX, and around the country, the consequences for failure to pay child support can be severe. Furthermore, law enforcement officials often focus on child support enforcement, which could lead to the apprehension of those who have warrants for their arrest due to unpaid child support.

Authorities recently took a New Jersey man into custody as a result of two arrest warrants that stemmed from his failure to pay more than $48,000 in child support. The 54-year-old man was placed in the Salem County Correctional Facility. Officers also arrested six other men, all of whom were put in the same correctional facility.

These arrests were part of a sweep that was conducted in Salem County, in which law enforcement officials acted on a total of 84 child support warrants for 61 different people. Once the sweep was wrapped up, the Sheriff's Office had collected over $4,000.

Raising a child can be very difficult and parents have a number of financial responsibilities that can be hard to cover, from extracurricular expenses to clothing and more.
