Director faces tough divorce

For Texas couples about to end their marriages, it may be difficult to think of property division and the various aspects of the legal process. Though any divorce is fairly involved, some high asset divorces involve a special level of complexity. The current proceedings of director Michael Moore, for example, include the division of tens of million of dollars that he and his wife of 23 years, Kathleen Glynn, accumulated over their marriage. Moore is well-known for various documentaries, most notably "Fahrenheit 9/11". Though he is quite a bit more famous than Glynn, she produced several of his documentaries.

Central to the proceedings will be the issue of Glynn's building a vacation mansion with marital funds. Moore's attorneys are alleging that the costly home has resulted in considerable damage to his reputation as a man of the people. The home is built on a lake in Michigan, the home state of both parties.

Moore's attorneys are bringing in two of Moore's agents to attest to his niche role in Hollywood and how the home is damaging to him. They also have brought in articles from relevant periodicals that have heavily criticized the mansion. One even described it as an indication that Moore is a hypocrite. It remains to be seen how this home, and the couple's eight other properties, will be handled in the divorce.

For those who are facing divorce themselves, it can be unnerving to consider the possibilities. It may be helpful for the unfamiliar to talk to a lawyer who has divorce experience. The lawyer may be able to explain the steps of divorce and to mitigate anxiety and uncertainty that come with the process.
