A shared child custody plan is what Channing Tatum has in mind

Many Texas parents know what it feels like to live apart from their children. Often, such situations come about when parents decide they want to divorce. It is no secret that divorce has a significant impact on children's lives; however, many kids are able to cope in a healthy manner, especially when their parents work together to create amicable child custody plans. That is what actor Channing Tatum says he is trying to do.

Tatum and his estranged wife have a 5-year-old daughter. The singer/actor says he wants the court to approve a shared custody plan wherein his daughter would live with him two days a week, then with her mother for two, and alternate weekends. In fact, Tatum's thought process is quite thorough in that his proposed written terms would also include details about holidays and birthdays.

A customized custody plan is a good way to help parents avoid disputes. Everything is in writing, which leaves little room for confusion regarding visitation dates, times or locations. Some parents print out copies of a custody calendar and keep it hanging in conspicuous spots in their homes, so everyone involved can plainly see what to expect in any given week.

If one parent feels strongly about spending time with his or her child on a particular day, it can be written into the terms of the custody agreement. For instance, in Tatum's case, he wants it included that both parents are to take their daughter trick-or-treating between the hours of 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. on Halloween. While not every custody plan is so detailed, any Texas parent who wishes to include specific instructions in a custody plan concerning holidays, vacations or other special events may do so. An experienced family law attorney can provide immediate support if a dispute arises after the court finalizes a child custody plan.
