Singer tries to get her "chicks" in a row for divorce

Texas residents love some good old country music and all the trappings that accompany it. Cowboy boots, rodeos and hard-working men and women are staple themes in the country music world. The Lone Star State has played host to legendary acts over the years, and many readers may be familiar with The Dixie Chicks. Singer Natalie Maines is strapping on her boots, but this time, she is headed for divorce court rather than center stage.

Natalie and her husband of 17 years cited irreconcilable differences when she filed for divorce in 2017, and though more than a year has passed, the divorce has not been finalized. The singer's estranged husband claims that he, an actor himself, passed up several opportunities for gainful employment to be the primary caregiver for the couple's children, while Natalie pursued her music career. He is asking the court to take this into consideration and award him alimony and child support.

Natalie, apparently frustrated that the proceedings continue to face delays, wants the court to validate the prenup that was put in place prior to the couple's marriage. She feels that this would expedite the proceedings and allow the couple to finally divorce. She also does not want the court to consider future earnings she is slated to receive on her upcoming solo tour.

When a person is interested in filing for divorce in Texas, he or she may find the process overwhelming. During a divorce, emotions can run high. In many cases, an experienced attorney can help a client consider his or her legal options regarding divorce, and help ensure that a client's rights and assets are protected as a divorce becomes final.
